Why I Noticed the Quiet One

🔸 This is a follow-up to The Bird with the Droplet Sound - if you haven't read it yet, start there.

I've been thinking about why that particular sound caught me, out of hundreds of birds singing in the same bushes every day.

It wasn't the loudest. It wasn't the most elaborate. It was actually the simplest sound out there: one brief note, repeating every few seconds, almost easy to miss entirely.

But I didn't miss it.

I noticed it before I noticed almost anything else.

I've been in a quiet season of my life lately. Introspective. Slower. I've been craving silence the way some people crave noise; Craving peace over chaos, stillness over performance, the kind of inner work that doesn't look like much from the outside but changes everything underneath.

And I wonder now if that's exactly why I heard it.

Maybe we notice what matches our own frequency. Maybe the things that catch our attention aren't random, they're recognition.

A quiet season in me, reaching toward a quiet sound out there. Like two tuning forks set to the same note, vibrating toward each other across all that noise.

There is something else, too. That sound was unlike anything else in those bushes. I had never heard it before - not that particular splat, that particular pause, that particular rhythm.

And maybe uniqueness does that. Maybe something doesn't have to be loud to stand out. It just has to be unlike anything else around it.

So maybe it was both.

I was listening for stillness because I was living in stillness. And what I found was something unique: a sound that belonged only to itself, in the middle of a hundred sounds that didn't.

I think that's true for us too.

The people who notice you - really notice you - aren't always the most people. They're the ones tuned to the same frequency you're living in right now.

And what they notice isn't how loud you are.

It's how unmistakably yours your sound is. 🌻

✨ Have you ever felt like the right people found you simply because you were both in the same season, the same frequency? I'd love to hear about it.
